CMIT S⁷ Outreach Program for Schools

The Club of Mathematics IISER TVM (CMIT) is celebrating its 7th foundation anniversary with many programs over the month of September. The Magnum Opus event, the CMIT Outreach Program (CMIT OP) for school students from Classes 8 to 12, invites students! The program aims to provide students with an environment to learn from the IISER professors and students free of cost.

General Rules and Guidelines of the Event:

1. The event is planned from 9:30 am - 5 pm.
2. For a single person, at most, two guardians can accompany them to the campus.
3. The institute will provide the travel arrangements, with Thampanoor as the only boarding point. You may choose to opt out of this and reach the institute on your own.
4. Morning refreshments will be provided.
5. Lunch will be provided.
6. One student can participate in any number of events if there is no time clash between those events. Ideally, it is preferred if the student participates in a maximum of 2 events. In case of clashes - they might be asked to choose only two events.
7. Any number of teams can take part in each event from the same school.

Event Description:

Presentation: Chalk & Talk

Time: 11:30 am - 1:00 pm and 3:20 pm - 4:20 pm

Description: Mathematics is learned via communication, and communicating mathematics ensures that the subject is preserved for future generations. This is a competition that helps you to showcase your mathematical communicating skills.

Rules and Guidelines of the Event:

1. This is a solo event.
2. You are supposed to give a presentation only in English for 7 mins, followed by a Q&A session of 3 mins.
3. Copying the words or the presentation styles is highly discouraged.
4. Plagiarism will lead to disqualification.
5. You are free to choose your own topic pertaining to Mathematics.
6. Participants are expected to send the presentation to our email address - mathsclub@iisertvm.ac.in with the Subject “Chalk and Talk: Your Name.” Also, have a copy of the presentation in a pen drive with no other files in it.
7. You can also have a presentation on the blackboard instead of the PPT.
8. The judgments will be made on:
   • Communication, clarity, and presentation of the material
   • Response in Q&A
   • Originality of the content

Time : Prelims: 11:30 am - 12:30 pm, Finals: 3:20-4:30 pm

Let’s experience the beauty of mathematics and the places where it is found through this quiz themed on general Mathematics, which intends to provide an exposition of the subject.

Description: Mathematics is the language of the universe, and art is a way to express yourself. So, here is a competition combining both. You can present your mathematical understanding of the universe in an art form. Create rangoli and explain its concept; the best blend of both stands to win an excellent prize!
